How do we test listening in the 'Real World'?

Tonal tests do not provide us with a clear depiction of an individual's ability to understand speech. Speech is a complex process and many factors impact on our ability to understand it, particularly in challenging or noisy environments. Fortunately, we now use test procedures that take this into consideration to help us better understand the listening abilities and needs of our clients.QuickSIN is a speech-in-noise test that quickly and easily measures the ability to hear speech in noise, testing in realistic situations such as social gatherings and noisy environments. It better reflects 'real-world' hearing and listening ability.

I have never had a test that captured so much of the real difficulties I am faced with everyday. It really helped put things into perspective for my daughter and I. Sitting in the test room with the Audiologist, my daughter and I was a truly powerful experience. All three of us finally understood my communication needs."  Mrs Zand, client of Cubex since 2006.
